OYO maintains a high-quality umpire program. Anyone age 11 (as of April 30, 2012) and older may apply, be trained, and have a great part-time job making the call. As part of the process, applicants must complete an umpire application, take the exam, and attend three mandatory clinics.
All umpires must have access to an email account and the Internet. All communication is done via email and all game scheduling is done on the Internet. All umpires must submit the application and take the exam, regardless of past experience. Applications must be received by February 9, 2012, for consideration for the 2012 seasons.
Below are key dates and deadlines for umpire-related activities for the Spring 2012 season.
Sunday, February 12, 2012 – Umpire Clinic at the Jenn Park (10450 E 63rd Street, Lawrence, IN 46216)
- Noon-1:30 p.m. – Junior Rookie, Rookie and 8U Softball
- 1:30-3 p.m. — 10U Softball and Minor
- 3-4:30 p.m. – 12U/14U Softball, Super Major, Junior Babe Ruth
Sunday, February 19, 2012 — Umpire Clinic at the Sterrett Center (8950 Otis Avenue, Lawrence, IN 46216)
- Noon-1:30 p.m. – Junior Rookie, Rookie and 8U Softball
- 1:30-3 p.m. — 10U Softball and Minor
- 3-4:30 p.m. – 12U/14U Softball, Super Major, Junior Babe Ruth
Sunday, March 4, 2012 — Last day to complete the Umpire exam
Saturday, April 14, 2012 – Mechanics Clinic at OYO (Veterans Memorial Park)
- Scrimmages to be scheduled for all leagues between 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
April 21, 2012 – Opening Day
