During this meeting, we will review tournament-specific rules, expectations, and sportsmanship manners.  This meeting will be facilitated by OYO President Michael DeSanto and then breakout sessions will be facilitated by OYO Executive Vice President Greg Champion (for baseball) and OYO 2nd Vice President Roger Nesbitt (for softball).  The meeting is expected to run approx. 20-30 minutes.

Player eval forms were distributed at the tournament draw on Sunday, September 23 — and coaches who have not received them can still claim their team’s card in the umpire room this week before/after their practice.

Submitting the Card (on time!)

Cards can be turned in using any of the following formats.  In all cases, coaches are encouraged to make a photocopy of their form before turning it in.

• Scan the completed form and email it to your league commissioner.
• Drop off the completed form in your commissioner’s folder in the umpire room.
• Bring a copy of the completed form to the mandatory coaches meeting on Sunday, October 7 at 7 p.m. on Field 6.

 Tips & Guidelines to Completing the Form

Lastly, here are some guidelines for completing the player eval form:

1. Evaluations are key to next season’s team assignments.  This process serves as our evaluation process for the following fall and spring seasons.  We believe this evaluation has provided better assessments of each player based on his/her development and performance during the season rather than a brief evaluation experience prior to the season.
2. Compare your team’s players against all players in your league, not just others on your team.  Coaches should consider how each player compares to all the players in your league.  If your team outperformed the competition on a more regular basis, then your players should be scoring slightly better than average and vice versa.
3. Rookie coaches do not need to complete the Pitching and Catching sections.  As the rules and the demands of these two positions vary significantly from the older levels, there’s no need for the aforementioned coaches to complete these two sections. 
4. When caught in the middle, use a half point.  When a player performs at a level between two points on the scale, you’re encouraged to use a half-point score (e.g. 3.5).
5. How to apply the criteria.  To ensure all coaches identify each criteria on the card on a similar note, here are a few explanations and what you should consider when evaluating a player.
• Hitting – mechanics, strike zone knowledge, ability to make contact, and quality of hits
• Throws – arm strength, accuracy
• Ground Balls & Fly Balls – mechanics, range to balls not hit right at the player
• Speed & Bases – General speed on the bases, base running skills and knowledge
• Pitching Skill – mechanics, accuracy, pick-off movement
• Catching Skill (position) – mechanics, arm strength, ability to block wild pitches
• Sportsmanship – general overall attitude and demeanor of player
• Game Knowledge – player’s understanding of game situations as a fielder and a hitter
• Comments – any must-know details about the player’s ability/performance
6. Make sure to add the names of ALL players on your team’s roster.  Please write the player’s names legibly.
7. Small investment of time.  To offer this process due diligence, it is estimated you will spend approximately 30 minutes completing this evaluation card.
8. Don’t lose the card.  This will be the only copy of the card you will receive.  Please make copies of it, especially if you plan to make notes until you’re ready to complete it.  If you do misplace it, let Roger Nesbitt (for softball) or Greg Champion (for baseball) know as soon as possible.
9. Turn in the card on time.  This information is critical for future OYO seasons.  So your input is mandatory.  Cards should be turned in to commissioners no later than 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 7 – the same night as the mandatory pre-tournament coaches meeting.  Failure to do so will result in barring a coach from participating in his/her team’s first tournament games as a coach or a parent.

Official brackets and game times will be released no later than Sunday, September 30, 2012 via the OYO website and TWIO message.

Often there are more parking spaces available then what might appear to be available on game days.  So here are a few recommendations on where your family is encouraged to park based on your ballplayer’s field assignments.

• If playing on Fields 1-5 or Field 13:  Park in the west parking lot (closest to Pendleton Pike and the playgrounds)
• If playing on Fields 6-11:  Park in the south parking lot (adjacent to East 62nd Street entrance)
• If both parking lots are full:  Park in the Geist Sports Academy parking lot

We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
